A 17-year-old girl was kidnapped from her father’s shop in Delft earlier this week, IOL has reported. This incident comes amid a series of kidnappings plaguing the Western Cape.
The father, who runs the family-owned tuck shop in Delft, has received a ransom demand of R600 000 in exchange for bringing his daughter home.
The incident occurred earlier this week, when the father was busy offloading goods in front of the shop. He was confronted by five men, who pistol-whipped him and then entered the shop.
Then they took his teenage daughter.
It is understood by the Weekend Argus that negotiators are involved in the investigation, and are assisting with the case.
Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani said that they could not reveal much information yet, apart from confirming that the Hawks are busy with the investigation.
“The investigation is at a sensitive stage and no information can be divulged at this current moment,” they say.
The teenager’s kidnapping comes two weeks after 8-year-old Abira Dekhta was rescued from Khayelitsha, following an intense investigation into her abduction.

When Abira’s father spoke to Cape Argus this week, he explained that the kidnappers did not harm his daughter during the time they held her ransom, but demanded money from the family for her release.
Abira’s family did not have to pay any money to the kidnappers due to the police investigation and rescue.
