Manenberg residents are living in fear of gang-related activities after a 21-year-old man was fatally wounded and seven others were seriously injured in a shooting in Audrey Court on Saturday evening.

Three male victims, between the ages of 25 and 31, along with a 25-year-old woman and three youths between 16 and 18 years old, sustained gunshot wounds while they were apparently socialising in the parking area when unknown gunmen opened fire from a passing vehicle.
According to SAPS provincial spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg, medical services declared one victim dead on the scene while the other victims were transported to hospital.
“The other victims were taken to a medical facility for treatment. The motive for the attack is yet to be established [and] suspects are yet to be arrested.”
Twigg added that the possibility that the shooting may be gang-related is currently subject to a police investigation, while cases of murder and attempted murder have also been registered with the SAPS.
This latest incident comes in the wake of another shooting, last week, where three people were killed and three others were wounded in gang-related attacks in the area.
The incident occurred as a shoot-out between gangs erupted in front of the Manenberg police station, in Duinefontein Road, at around 2pm on Wednesday.
At the time, Twigg said that the shooting led the conflict into another gang’s turf: “This has now led to retaliation by other gangs in the area.”
In another incident, a 21-year-old man was also fatally shot, while a 19-year-old and a 25-year-old were injured in Peta Court.
Police were then called to a property on Renoster Road, where an argument resulted in several shots being fired shortly afterwards.
A man was also found dead with five gunshot wounds in his back on a bed.
At around 6:30am in Tagus Road, on Thursday, a 33-year-old man was killed while his 69-year-old mother was wounded in the back and taken to hospital.
“The motive for the shooting incidents is suspected to be gang-related,” said Twigg.
“SAPS and other law enforcement agencies have been deployed to the affected area and will remain on the ground until we are satisfied that law and order has been restored.”
“Our detectives are working around the clock to bring the perpetrators to book,” Twigg previously said.
