Boy, 4, dies after drowning in home swimming pool

Cape Town – While many South Africans are enjoying a long weekend, a Durban family is grieving the loss of their four-year-boy who reportedly drowned in a home swimming pool.

The tragic accident occurred in a swimming pool on the Bluff in the Durban south area on Thursday, IOL reported.

Paramedics arrived at the home just before 14:00 to find the boy in a state of cardiac arrest, the report said.

“Despite a lengthy resuscitation effort from all paramedics unfortunately the child passed away on the scene.

“It is alleged the child fell into the pool and was found in the water before CPR was started,” Garrith Jamieson from ALS Jamieson the report quoted Garrith Jamieson of ALS Paramedics as saying.

The report said circumstances leading up to the tragic incident will form part of a police investigation.

This came a few days after two girls aged five and nine died after drowning at a hotel swimming pool on Durban’s South Beach.

They were declared dead at the scene by paramedics after resuscitation efforts and several advanced life support intervention methods were exhausted.
