The housing project was initiated during the previous financial year to help ‘indigent households and beneficiaries with disabilities’ from five provincial housing projects, according to the statement.
The results of the project so far have been promising and validate its continuation ‘into the 2024/25 financial year’.
The initiative has been a ‘R27.5 million investment’ to help improve the lives of people that are ‘in most need’ of help, according to Simmers.
According to Ntobeko Mbingeleli, spokesperson for Simmers, the project started in 2019 but was halted due to COVID-19.
The 2023/2024 housing project will ‘roll into’ the next financial year, which will cost an estimated R27.5 million, he added.
