Dachshunds' Close Call with Chocolate Serves As an Important Reminder

We're so glad this pup is okay!

Even if a lot of human foods are safe to share with your furry friend, there are some which can be downright deadly. Kitchen staples like grapes and chocolate are especially toxic to canines, so the owners of @gaston.theminidachshund didn't waste a minute when they noticed missing chocolate from where the dog had just been. As scary as their close call may have been, we're so glad this Dachshund is well enough to tell the tale.

We're hoping that this video can remind pet parents to keep an extra close eye on any chocolate in their homes. And if you think that your pup had a bite, don't hesitate to take action!

Phew! Relief doesn't even begin to describe how glad we are that this Doxie is okay, though we're sure his parents are even more grateful. It's their quick thinking that saved him, though!

"Omg poor baby," said commenter @minimess5. "I’m glad he’s okay." So are we! Even though there are at-home remedies Gaston and his paw-rents could've tried, going to the vet is never a bad idea.

@xovjas suggested that "next time: give 1ml of hydrogen peroxide per pound. If given within 2 hours it will all come up within 3 minutes!" We recommend getting a veterinary expert on the phone before trying this, or any, method of inducing vomiting, though it is good to know about a Plan B. Better safe than sorry, after all!
