Exploring the Sunday Brunch Extravaganza at Ginja Restaurant at the V&A Waterfront

With its incredible view of Table Mountain and the backdrop of Cape Town’s bustling V&A Waterfront, Ginja Restaurant inside the V&A Hotel has long been celebrated for its lazy (and delicious) Sunday brunches.

We were incredibly excited when an invite arrived in our inbox asking us to review the experience.

Ginja Restaurant offers an a la carte menu that reflect the vibrant flavors of South Africaand brings a dining experience that marries sophistication with comfort, making it the perfect venue to create memorable moments with friends and family.

  • Every Sunday, between 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm, Ginja Restaurant also hosts a wonderful brunch buffet. For the price of R495 per person, guests can enjoy an extensive range of gourmet creations designed to cater to diverse tastes so that everyone at the table is guaranteed to have a great time.

Our visit to Ginja’s Sunday Brunch was a day to remember.

Arriving for a leisurely late lunch at 2 pm, we were welcomed with a glass of bubbly that set the tone for the feast ahead. The buffet started at the salad table, adorned with an array of vibrant, fresh leafy greens alongside succulent smoked salmon and a variety of freshly baked breads. Each salad was a testament to freshness and creativity, offering different textures and flavors where each ingredient simply delighted. These were salads that excite.

As we ventured to the main courses, the options continued to be impressive. A meat-lovers dream, the buffet table boasted an assortment of lamb, boerewors, steak, and more. However, it was the seafood corner that captured my attention. The kingklip, a pure delicacy, was a master piece in juiciness and flavor, while the mussels offered a wonderful taste of the ocean. All served with delicious roast veggies and another side salad to complete the dish. So good that I went back for seconds.

No brunch would be complete without a sensational dessert selection, and the buffet at Ginja did not disappoint. The malva pudding is always a timeless classic, – a highlight in its own right. Yet, it was the peppermint crisp tart that stole the show for me, with its perfect balance of creamy indulgence and refreshing mint. Chocolate brownies and fresh fruit among a selection of cheeses were also available to end the meal.

From our experience at Ginja’s Sunday brunch, we’d recommend it to anyone looking for a gourmet feast that suits a wide variety of tastes and preferences. The attention to detail was not only evident by the culinary team in how the food was presented but also in the warm hospitality of the staff who were always very attentive. The ambiance of the restaurant, coupled with the panoramic views of the V&A Waterfront & Table Mounting makes Ginja one of the best settings in town to spend your Sunday afternoon.
