Farmer Shares the Cute Ways He Tells His Livestock Guardian Dogs Apart

Can you tell they're genetically related?

There's always a lot going on at @goldshawfarm, which is why they've enlisted the help of two beloved livestock guardian dogs. Meet Toby and Abby! Despite looking a lot like Great Pyrenees, these furry friends are actually Maremmano-Abruzzese Sheepdogs--or Maremmas.

Though they live and work like siblings, Toby and Abby are as closely related as first cousins. They may have a lot in common, including their looks, but their owner made this adorable video to share how he tells them apart.

They're such beautiful dogs! From that fluffy white coat to their soulful eyes, we just can't stop staring at them. No wonder they star in so many of their dad's videos!

"I seriously thought they were Great Pyrenees for the longest time lol," admitted @quentingraciano. That's what we thought, too! To be fair, the two breeds have very similar characteristics, and both can make excellent livestock guardian dogs.

We totally understand how people get the two dogs mixed up, too. Just like the two breeds we discussed--the two pups look so similar! Commenter @yardsardss said, "I tell them apart because you never see Toby’s ears." We're definitely going to use that little trick! His ears must be hiding behind all his fluff, unlike Abby's which are much more prominent. Despite their little differences, though, both of these cousins are positively gorgeous!
