Chinese LCV automaker Foton has unveiled a next-gen of light commercial vehicles signalling a new era in the South African market. Here are some fresh details on what to expect.

As of Q2 2024, Foton will officially debut a new generation of light commercial vehicles in the South African market. Since its establishment in South Africa in 2008, Foton has introduced vehicles across various segments, including Heavy-Duty Commercial, Medium Commercial, Light Commercial, and the Minibus Taxi segment.

The automaker has been China’s number one commercial brand for the past 19 years and plans on aligning its global vision in the industry for ‘sustainable and forward-thinking transportation solutions.’ Mandarin Parts Distributors (MPD), the appointed Importer and Distributor in South Africa for Foton, operates as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the listed company CMH (Combined Motor Holdings).
Marius Smal, the Managing Director of MPD, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “Since 2009, MPD has been a stalwart in servicing various Chinese brands in South Africa, ensuring a seamless parts supply where others could not. As the official Foton importer, we are poised to offer special assistance to owners of older-generation FOTON light commercial vehicles, further solidifying our commitment to customer satisfaction and support.”

The upcoming release of FOTON’s new generation of vehicles represents a pivotal moment in the South African automotive industry, combining the legacy of a trusted brand with cutting-edge technology and a commitment to meeting the evolving needs of the market.
Details on models and pricing are still scarce at the moment however more information can be expected closer to the launch date in Q2.
