Cape Town – Celebrity makeup artist, business developer, and influencer Maja Janeska, 39, was reportedly found dead on Friday, December 2, in Johannesburg after reportedly sustaining a gunshot wound to the head.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela said that a case of inquest had since been opened, IOL reported.
“Police received a call about a person who allegedly killed herself in Bassonia Estate. Upon arrival at the address given, police found a woman in the bedroom with a gunshot wound on the head. There was a firearm next to her. The woman was certified dead by the paramedics,” Mavela was reported as saying.
The report said that Janeska had occasionally feared for life.
According to News24, the shock passing of the popular North Macedonian Instagram influencer, whose 1.2 million followers included Malema and celebrities like Boity, Pearl Thusi and Tamara Dey, had left her family in Europe and her friends in South Africa reeling.
A relative, who requested to remain anonymous, said that they were unable to travel to SA due to VISA issues, the report said.
“Our phones haven’t stopped ringing; this is all new to us. We are in Europe, and our hands are tied because we can’t come to South Africa because of visa issues. [Janeska] is lying there in some mortuary, and we don’t have any clue as to what is actually happening,” the relative was reported as saying.

Wife of Elton Jantjies and a friend of Janeska, Iva Ristic, took to Instagram to pay tribute to her late friend.
“Fly high my dearest friend!” she wrote on Instagram.
“I have no words just anxiety and sadness… Can’t believe you are gone, just like that… Your beautiful face and our funny jokes is something I will forever miss.
“See you on the other side,” Iva added.
