Iron Eagle Needs a Blu-ray Release

We all know that True Lies and The Abyss need a Blu-ray or 4K release and rumour has it they are coming later this year but there is another movie that deserves to get an upgrade.

With the success of last year’s Top Gun: Maverick and the fact that it’s Johnny Lawrence of Cobra Kai’s favourite film I’m surprised that Iron Eagle (which is regularly compared to the original Top Gun) has never had a North American Blu-ray release; it does have a Blu-ray in Spain and even some of the sequels have been given the Blu-ray treatment but the original still only has a DVD. With the spectacular action scenes it would look great in Hi-Def and ideally I would love to see it on 4K but I’d settle for Blu-ray.

In a perfect world a company like Vinegar Syndrome, Synapse or 88 Films would do a snazzy box set featuring all 4 films but so far there is no word on anything in the pipeline (that I know of).

In case you haven’t seen it before Iron Eagle’s story is as follows: When Col. Ted Masters’ (Tim Thomerson) plane goes down in an Arab country and he’s sentenced to death for trespassing, his 18-year-old son, Doug (Jason Gedrick), is determined to save him. Unfortunately, Doug isn’t the best fighter pilot — he wasn’t accepted into the Air Force because he needs to listen to music in order to hit a target. So he enlists the help of Col. Chappy (Louis Gossett Jr.) to borrow a couple of F-16 planes, fly across the Atlantic and start a rescue mission.

It’s pure 80’s greatness and I feel like it’s a movie that doesn’t get talked about enough so hopefully someone reads this and decides to give us the Blu-ray or 4K we deserve.
