In a statement issued yesterday, SAPS provincial spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg urged anyone with information to come forward and assist the Khayelitsha Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit in tracing the child who was allegedly taken by an unknown woman earlier this week.
“According to reports, the child was left with the women while the aunt went into a shop,” said Twigg. “When she returned the women and the child were both missing.”
“Anyone with information that can assist with the investigation is kindly requested to contact the investigating officer Captain Trevor Nash on 082 301 8910 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.”

This incident comes in the wake of a recent spate of kidnappings that has seen several adults, teenagers and children abducted in recent months.
In November, an 18-year-old boy and an unidentified 15-year-old girl were allegedly snatched.
It is believed that the Grade 11 learner was taken on his way to write his final exam and was allegedly submerged in water until his abductors believed he was dead.
Last month, several suspects were arrested in connection with the kidnapping of eight-year-old, Abirah Dekhta, who was abducted in Ryland on 5 November later reunited with her family.
In September, the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the City of Cape Town agreed to utilise the SAPS specialised services units to form an inter-governmental kidnapping and extortion task force.
This came after at least two more incidents of kidnapping in Cape Town. One resulted in the death of an eight-year-old boy from Nyanga, and the other was the disappearance of a woman who was taken in broad daylight, in full view of security cameras.
