Boasting a supercharged V12 petrol engine endowed with 447 kW, TWR has unveiled the Supercat, a Jaguar XJS-based ‘Super-GT’ available in limited numbers. Only 88 units — to celebrate the TWR Jaguar XJR-9’s Le Mans win in 1988 — will be built, each priced at £225 000 (excl. tax). At the current Rand-Pound exchange rate, the latter figure translates to R5 225 661.57.
“After more than two years of extensive design, engineering and development work, we are proud to unveil the design of TWR’s debut product. The outcome is a true drivers’ Super-GT, built from the foundations of the iconic Jaguar XJS and appropriately named the Supercat,” said Fergus Walkinshaw, Director and Founder of TWR.

The UK-based brand says the Supercat fulfils the company’s mission of building cars that are worthy of TWR’s winning legacy. “We cannot wait for clients to experience the most powerful, dynamic and visceral evocation of a British icon that has been revolutionised from the ground-up to be ready for those that demand to be connected to the cars they drive, whether on the track or the road. This is the TWR way and will define this and every future project we undertake,” added Walkinshaw.
Under the leadership of Walkinshaw’s son, Tom, the Supercat was engineered by a group of technical and operational talent from the most celebrated names in motorsport and performance-car development, TWR says. These include McLaren, Ferrari, Porsche, Williams, Mercedes F1 and Renault F1. Although the Supercat’s silhouette resembles that of the car it is based on, every one of its exterior panels have been fashioned from carbon fibre. There are also “subtle” nods to TWR’s Jaguar heritage, which, the automaker says, combine to create a more muscular aesthetic.

Speaking about the Supercat’s design, Khyzyl Saleem, Vehicle Designer at TWR, said, “This project is an incredible opportunity to interpret TWR’s winning legacy in today’s design language. In merging the requirements of Super-GT form and racing functionality we have created a unique identity that is instantly recognisable from its silhouette.”
