After learning that the price of fuels will likely increase by a significant amount in March, SANRAL has now announced that all national toll fees will increase by 6.25% too.

As if being a motorist wasn’t expensive enough, here comes another toll fee hike to lighten our wallets. Brace yourselves, from March 1st, toll fees are set to rise by 6.25%, as announced by the South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (Sanral). This toll fee increase will affect various routes across South Africa, spanning from the Platinum Toll Road to the N17 Toll Road. Get ready for a range of toll charges, anywhere from R7 to a whopping R685.

As per the official Government Gazette, this fee adjustment is pegged to inflation rates. According to Sanral’s general manager, Vusi Mona, the extra revenue generated will be funnelled back into maintaining, operating, and improving toll roads. Sounds great in theory for ailing national infrastructure, but for motorists already feeling the pinch, it’s just another expense to factor into the budget.
