Mzansi Youth Choir receives a golden buzzer on America’s Got Talent

The Mzansi Youth Choir’s performance on America’s Got Talent stirred the audience to a crescendo of chants, echoing the words ‘golden buzzer’ throughout the auditorium.

Clad in elegant white attire, the choir captivated with an emotional rendition of Nightbirde’s ‘It’s Ok.’ Their delivery struck a chord with not only the spectators but also Judge Simon Cowell, who was moved to tears.

This achievement comes just days after Musa Motha, a South African-born amputee dancer, advanced to the finals of Britain’s Got Talent. It has also been four years since the Ndlovu Youth Choir competed on America’s Got Talent.

The judges and host Terry Crews joined in for a standing ovation as the choristers were overcome with emotion, and they gave the choir a golden buzzer.

The Mzansi Youth Choir was showered with gold confetti to commemorate their triumph.

Receiving a golden buzzer means that the Mzansi Youth Choir has automatically advanced to the semi-finals in August 2023.

Adding another layer of depth to the performance, the choir specifically chose Nightbirde’s composition to honour her, as she died during the show’s 16th season in February 2022 due to health complications related to her battle with cancer.

Alfred Phakathi, the choir’s artistic director and choreographer, expressed his immense pride in the choir members, praising their hard work and ability to handle the intense pressure of the competition with grace.

Mzansi Youth Choir, Ndlovu Youth Choir and Musa Motha serve as testaments to the incredible talent that emanates from South Africa.
