Iran vs Portugal 1-1 Highlights 25 June 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia
Cristiano Ronaldo missed a second-half penalty as Portugal drew 1-1 with Iran to advance to the round of 16 at the 2018 World Cup.
Selecao enjoyed a good start to the clash as the likes of Ronaldo and João Mario had efforts at goal in the opening 15 minutes.
Despite Portugal's dominance, they struggled to carve out clear-cut chances as they were restricted to long-range efforts.
Iran carved out the game's first chance after 33 minutes as Saeid Ezatolahi got on the end of the free-kick before steering his header straight at Rui Patricio.
Portugal were eventually rewarded for the dominance three minutes before the break as Ricardo Quaresma cut inside and sent a fine curling strike into the top corner with the outside of his boot.
Five minutes into the second half, Portugal were awarded a penalty following review from the Video Assistant Referee (VAR). Ronaldo took responsibility but saw his spot-kick saved by Munir. Portugal coach Fernando Santos opted for fresher legs and withdrew Quaresma for Manchester City's Bernado Silva on 70 minutes.
The European champions were camped in the Iran half for most of the second half as they pushed for a second goal.
There was some more drama in the closing stages as Iran were awarded a penalty via the VAR.
Karim Ansarifard converted the penalty for Iran but it was too late as Portugal held on for the point which takes them into the next round.
