Brightly coloured and rainbow-themed, Ford and Maersk paired to create a display at their production plants in South Africa along with a subsequent roadshow for the shipping company.
The entire collaboration includes a 40-foot rainbow container provided by Maersk, which has been on a global roadshow, alongside a Next-Gen Ford Ranger model which wears a similar, colourful livery. Intended to create awareness of diversity, equity and inclusion, the Maersk container will be travelling the country as part of a display until the end of the year.
As for the Blue Oval, Ford states: “It’s important to let the world know where you stand. Ford has partnered with Maersk to fully stand behind the LGBTQIA+ community in a very visual way. Our Next-Gen Pride Ranger stands proudly on top of a 40-foot rainbow-coloured Maersk container at our plants for our employees to sign. This will be our symbol of commitment to the LGBTQIA+ community because we are proud to be allies.”
“At Ford, we pride ourselves on our dedication to creating a fair and inclusive environment within and around our business. We advocate for diversity at every level of our organisation to ensure that every employee has a fair and equal opportunity to grow regardless of gender or sexual orientation. We are proud to be allies of the LGBTQIA+ community.”
David Williams, Africa Region Managing Director at Maersk added “We are excited to welcome the rainbow container to South Africa and emphasize our commitment to inclusion. This container is a reminder to celebrate our diversity and create a culture where all employees, stakeholders and customers feel welcome to partner and work with us.”
The rainbow container arrived in Cape Town and spent Heritage Day welcoming the public at the V & A waterfront. Since then, the unmistakable volume has travelled to Gauteng where it was part of the Pride of Africa event, before moving to Port Elizabeth and Pretoria. In November the rainbow container will be at various locations in Gauteng and Kwa Zulu Natal before returning to the Western Cape in December.
