Volkswagen SA’s Kariega plant has reached an impressive milestone. Since production began in 1996, the manufacturing plant has now produced two million Polos.
A stone’s throw away at the time of its birthing, the Kariega plant had manufactured 1 626 816 Polos ( 1 065 718 for export and 561 098 for the local market). To date, 373 184 Polo Vivos have been manufactured at the Kariega plant.
“My gratitude goes out to every employee, because we would not be able to celebrate this milestone – and many others we’ve had this year – if not for their consistent hard work and dedication. This achievement belongs to all the members of the VWSA family.” — Ulrich Schwabe, Production Director at VWSA
With over a million units doled out for export, those units are distributed to over 38 countries across the globe. The plant is the sole manufacturer of Polo GTI and leads with its cherished Polo Vivo.
“This is an excellent milestone with which to end off the year,” — Schwabe
