In an advert promoting South African pet food brand Ultra Pet, the producers used the Mother City as their backdrop. Keeping it proudly local, the advert/short film entitled “My Best Friend” is going viral.

The video was released last Thursday on YouTube and has since climbed in views across social platforms, amassing more than 2.3 million views on TikTok.
The clip takes viewers through a day in the life of a pet owner and his best friend. The pet owner is played by writer and director Oli Booth, with character actors Will Hobson and Perogen the bulldog both taking on the role of best friend.

The two spend all their time together, swimming, walking and playing. The creators of the ad wanted to enforce the narrative of “best friends”, challenging people to think about whether they are giving their pets a choice in the food they eat.
