WATCH | Anele Mdoda urges motorists to think about pedestrians when traffic lights are off during load shedding

Cape Town – South African media personality Anele Mdoda has expressed concern towards the safety of pedestrians when traffic lights are off during load shedding, pleading with motorists to be considerate of them.

“Okes… please… pedestrians,” she captioned the video.

The presenter dived into the topic of traffic lights and load shedding on 947’s Anele and the Club breakfast show.

“As somebody who crosses over several suburbs to get to work, there was not one traffic light working this morning. I thought we did our mediocrity in shifts,” Anele said.

“If you thought we had hit rock bottom, rock bottom is a basement. We have started digging,” she added.

Eskom implemented Stage 6 load shedding from midday on Wednesday, saying this was due “to a high number of breakdowns since midnight, as well as the requirement to strictly preserve the remaining emergency generation reserves”.

The power utility had earlier escalated the rolling blackouts to stage 4, saying this was because of “further breakdowns and delayed returns of generating units to service”.

Eskom said stage 6 would be in effect “until further notice”.
