Addressing the camera, he says:

“Hello everyone, here we are over stunning South Africa. We’re filming ‘Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning’ parts one and two. I didn’t want the year to end without thanking you all for coming out to the movie theatre and thank you for supporting ‘Top Gun: Maverick.'”

Suddenly, Mission Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie appears in the frame, gesticulating to Cruise to hurry up.

“Hey listen, we really gotta roll; we gotta get this shot!” McQuarrie says.

“Right,” Cruise asks, “are you coming?” to which McQuarrie responds, “Not on your life!” and wishes him good luck.

As Cruise drops out of the plane, he continues his message:

“Where was I? Oh yeah, thank you for supporting ‘Top Gun!’ As always, thank you for allowing us to entertain you. It truly is the honour of a lifetime. I’m very lucky.”

After a moment’s pause, Cruise shouts, “I’m running out of altitude, so I better get back to work; we’ve got to get this shot!”

As the sea stretches out beneath him, he completes his message:

“You have a very safe and happy holiday. We’ll see you at the movies!”

Cruise’s parachute seems to open only a few metres above the water.

Watch:

“Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning” part one is due to hit the movie theatres next year, with part two released in 2024.
